Hablamos con uno de los artistas de hardstyle del momento: Phuture Noize. Acaba de sacar disco, será el que abrirá el mainstage de Defqon 1, ha hecho el anthem de Intents Festival… ¡Menudo verano le espera por delante.

Entrevista con Phuture Noize
¡Hola Marco, gracias por tu tiempo! Intents está a la vuelta de la esquina y co-creaste el himno del 20 aniversario junto a Brennan Heart. ¿Podrías contarnos cómo nació esta colaboración y cuánto tiempo os llevó terminarla?
Antes de empezar a trabajar juntos, Intents me llamó para preguntarme si estaba interesado en hacer el himno junto a Brennan Heart. Nunca había trabajado con él antes, pero pensé que sería un desafío interesante para mí trabajar con alguien que tiene un enfoque diferente al hardstyle. Además, es un honor crear un himno para un evento tan grande. Después de discutirlo con mi equipo, hablé por teléfono con Brennan Heart para hablar sobre el enfoque del tema. Después, nos enviamos algunas demos y ya teníamos la melodía lista en ese momento. Dado que ambos estábamos muy ocupados con otros trabajos, planeamos una sesión con un compositor y produjimos la canción en aproximadamente tres días.
¿Cómo fue trabajar con Brennan Heart?
Fue genial ver el enfoque de un productor que ha estado haciendo hardstyle durante tanto tiempo. Él no está realmente interesado en el hardstyle con muchos detalles, mientras que yo siempre dedico mucho tiempo a eso, así que fue un cambio agradable para mí. Eso realmente me inspiró para mi propia música en el futuro, ya que en algunas piezas de música se trata más de la vibra que de profundizar demasiado en la producción.
En el festival pincharás dos veces el sábado, en el mainstage y en un especial b2b con Vertile en el indoor mainstage, y luego el domingo b2b con B-Front. ¿Cómo estás trabajando en estos 3 sets?
Para los sets del sábado, seleccionaré mis propios tracks favoritos y de otros djs para pinchar. El set con B-Front siempre es algo más natural, simplemente comienzo con una lista de reproducción de cosas que considero adecuadas para nuestros sets y seleccionamos las canciones en el escenario para ver qué funciona mejor. Pinchar con B-Front es algo muy natural para mí.
Estoy seguro de que, al menos en tu set personal, escucharemos mucha música nueva de tu último álbum ‘From Start to Stardust’, quería hablar un poco sobre el álbum. ¿Cómo fue el proceso creativo detrás de esta obra maestra?
Comencé con el espectáculo “Statues” el año pasado, que se suponía que sería una versión actualizada de mi espectáculo “Silver Bullet” que hice justo antes de que llegara el covid. A principios de ese año, justo antes de mi show X-Qlusive, decidimos hacer que 2022 fuera un año en el que me enfocaría en algunos singles nuevos, en lugar de otro proyecto grande. Pero después de hacer el espectáculo “Statues” ese verano, me di cuenta de que hacer álbumes es la mejor manera de hacer música para mí. Pasé los meses de septiembre a diciembre enfocándo en hacer la mayor cantidad posible de demos, de los cuales elegiría los mejores y las terminaría en un nuevo álbum. Mientras lo hacía, escribí un storyboard para el álbum para poder escribir letras sobre el tema/mensaje general del álbum.
Incluye canciones muy esperadas como ‘Landmines’ o ‘Eye of the Storm’ y también nuevas canciones increíbles… Sé que por lo general a los artistas no les gusta esta pregunta, pero ¿puedes decirnos tu favorita personal del álbum y por qué?
Realmente no tengo una favorita, todas tienen un propósito para mí en el panorama general del álbum. Siento que “Problem Child” fue la canción que me dio más inspiración para el futuro…
Sabemos que eres un verdadero músico y eso se puede sentir en cada canción a través de las melodías, letras y al agregar instrumentos reales. De hecho, en la escena del hardstyle eres uno de los pocos artistas que realmente son reconocibles por tener tu propio sonido personal. Como si escuchas un set y escuchas una de tus canciones, sabes que es 100% Phuture Noize, ¿echas de menos más de eso en la escena?
Creo que la razón principal son los fans del hardstyle. No porque los fans hagan que todo suene igual, sino porque los djs quieren ofrecerles un sonido que realmente disfruten. Dado que los fans son muy apasionados, expresan muy claramente qué estilo creen que es el mejor en este momento y muchos artistas intentan ofrecerles ese sonido para poder tocar en los escenarios más grandes.
Personalmente, no veo esto como un problema, porque al final es solo entretenimiento. Si la gente se lo está pasando bien, todo está bien para mí. Pero, añadido a eso, mentiría si dijera que a veces me decepciona la falta de creatividad en la escena, ya que realmente disfruto la música que tiene una visión futurista.
Uno de tus puntos destacados para el verano será el espectáculo de apertura del Red (mainstage) en Defqon 1. ¿Cómo estás preparando este show en particular? ¿Puedes darnos algún adelanto?
No creo que nunca antes haya dedicado tanto tiempo solo a un set. Estoy invitando a músicos en vivo, grabando nuevamente canciones antiguas y haciendo nuevas ediciones. Es mucho trabajo y realmente espero poder terminar todas estas ideas a tiempo, ¡porque el horario está muy ocupado!
También con Q Dance, tuvimos una fiesta increíble en tu evento x-Qlusive hace casi un año. ¿Cómo lo recuerdas?
X-Qlusive fue, por supuesto, una experiencia increíble. Fue la primera vez que pude mostrar la nueva idea del espectáculo de Phuture Noize. Además, toqué muchos de mis trabajos anteriores y la respuesta del público fue increíble durante todo el evento.
Vemos en tu Instagram que a menudo te vas de vacaciones a España, pero ¿cómo de cercano te sientes de tus fans españoles? Porque tienes bastantes…
Me encanta ir a España, la comida y el ambiente son realmente algo que disfruto. La actitud es simplemente diferente a la de los Países Bajos. Siempre trato de actuar allí cuando tengo la oportunidad.

Hi Marco, thanks for your time! Intents is around the corner and you co-created the anthem of the 20th anniversary with Brennan Heart. Could you tell us how this collaboration was born and how long did it take to finish it?
Before we started working together, Intents phoned me asking if I was interested in making the anthem together with Brennan Heart. I never worked with him before, but I thought it would be an interesting challenge for me to work together with someone with a different approach to hardstyle. Next to that, it’s also an honor to create an anthem for such a big event. After I discussed this with my team, I phoned with Brennan Heart to talk about the approach for the song. After that we sent over some demos and we already had the melody laid out at that point. Since we were both very busy with other work we planned a session with a songwriter and produced the song in about 3 days after that.
How was working with Brennan Heart?
It was awesome to see the approach of a producer who has been making hardstyle for so long. He isn’t really into hardstyle with a lot of details, while I always spend a lot of time fiddling with that so it was a nice change for me. That really inspired me for my own future music that for some pieces of music it’s all about the vibe rather than zooming in too much on the production.
In the festival you will play twice in the already sold out Saturday, in the mainstage and in one special b2b with Vertile in the indoor mainstage, and then on Sunday b2b with B-Front. How are you working on these 3 sets?
For the sets on Saturday I will be picking out my favorite tunes from myself and other dj’s to play. The set with B-front is always a more natural thing, I just start out with a playlist of stuff I find fitting in our sets and we select the tracks on stage to see what works best. Playing with B-front comes really natural to me.
I’m sure that, at least, in your personal set we will listen to a lot of new music from your last album ‘From Start to Stardust’, I wanted to talk a bit about the album. How was the creative process behind this masterpiece?
I started out the “statues” liveshow last year, which was supposed to be an updated version of my silver bullet liveshow I made just before COVID hit. At the beginning of that year, just before my X-qlusive show we decided to make 2022 a year where I would focus on a few new singles, instead of a big project again. But after playing the Statues show that summer, I realized making albums is the best way to make music for me. I spend the months from september to december just focussing on making as many demos as I could, which then I would pick the best ones and finish them into a new album. While I was doing that I wrote a storyboard for the album so I could write lyrics about the general theme/message of the album.
It includes highly anticipated tracks like ‘Landmines’ or ‘Eye of the Storm’ and also new amazing tracks… I know that usually artists don’t like this question, but can you tell us your personal favorite of the album and why?
I really don’t have a favorite, they all serve a purpose to me in the bigger picture of the album. I do feel that Problem Child was the song that gave me the most inspiration for the future..
We know that you are a true musician and we can feel that in every track through the melodies, lyrics and adding some real instruments. To be honest, in the hardstyle scene you are one of the few artists that are actually recognizable for having your own personal sound. Like if you listen to a set and you hear one of your tracks you know that’s 100% Phuture Noize, do you miss more of that in the scene?
I think the biggest reason are the hardstyle fans. Not because the fans make everything sound the same, but the DJ’s wanna serve the people a sound that they really enjoy. Since the fans are very passionate they are really vocal on what style they think is the best right now and a lot of DJ’s just try to serve that sound to them so they can play the biggest stages.
I don’t personally see this as a problem, because in the end its just entertaiment. If people are having a good time then its all good to me. But, added, I would be lying if I said that I sometimes am disappointed by the lack of creativity in the scene, since I really enjoy forward thinking music.
One of your highlights for the summer is going to be the opening show of Red in Defqon 1. How are you preparing this particular show? Could you tell us any sneak peak of it?
I don’t think I have ever spend this much time on just a set before. I am inviting live musicians, re-recording old songs and making new edits. It’s a lot of work and I really hope I can finish all these ideas in time, cuz the schedule is very busy!
Also with Q Dance, we had an amazing party in your xQlusive event almost one year ago. How do you remember that?
X-qlusive was of course an amazing expierence. It was the first time I could show off the new phuture noize show idea. Next to that I played a lot of my older work and the crowd response was amazing the entire night!
We see in your Instagram that you often go on holiday to Spain, but how close do you feel to your spanish fans? Because you have quite some…
I love coming to Spain, the food and atmosphere is really something I enjoy. The attitude is just different from the Netherlands. I always try to perform there when I have the chance!
